FRP/GRP Gratings: Smart Industrial Flooring Solutions
Industrial FRP/GRP Gratings
FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) and GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) gratings are industrial flooring panels made from fiberglass reinforcement and thermosetting resin. These grating systems are used as alternatives to metal gratings in environments where corrosion resistance, low weight, and electrical insulation are important. Common applications include walkways, platforms, stair treads, trench covers, and drainage covers in chemical plants, water treatment facilities, offshore platforms, and food processing plants.
We manufacture gratings using pultrusion machines and pultrusion dies, with resin systems selected for the target environment. For a broader range of composite shapes, see our pultruded FRP profiles.

Types of FRP/GRP Gratings
Molded Gratings
Molded gratings have an integrated square mesh design that distributes loads in multiple directions. The one-piece construction allows load transfer to adjoining bars.
Higher resin content (65-70%) for chemical protection
Bi-directional strength for platforms and walkways
Standard panel size: 1220 x 3660 mm (customizable)
Available thicknesses: 25 mm, 38 mm, 50 mm
Load capacity depends on panel thickness and span; consult load tables for specific configurations
Pultruded Gratings
Pultruded gratings are made with pultruded FRP profiles joined to form bearing bars. They provide high strength along the bearing bar direction and suit applications with defined load paths.
Higher glass content (about 70%) for structural performance
Available in 25 mm, 38 mm, and 50 mm depths
Can span longer distances than molded gratings in the bearing direction
Often selected for large areas with consistent loading patterns
FRP Stair Treads
FRP stair treads include reinforced front nosing and anti-slip surfaces for industrial stairways.
Self-supporting design reduces need for underlying structure
Integral nosing with high-visibility marking options
Multiple grit patterns available
Fire-retardant formulations available for escape routes
Standard and custom widths available

Installation
FRP/GRP gratings can be installed using standard methods:
Standard hold-down: M-clips and standard fasteners
Direct fastening: Self-tapping screws for permanent installations
Saddle clipping: For removable sections requiring maintenance access
Load capacity depends on panel thickness, span, resin system, and support configuration. Always consult project-specific load tables for safe working loads.

FAQ
What are FRP/GRP fiberglass gratings used for?
FRP/GRP gratings are used for walkways, platforms, stair treads, trench covers, catwalks, mezzanines, and flooring in chemical plants, oil and gas platforms, water treatment facilities, marine/offshore installations, food processing plants, and power plants.
Why choose FRP gratings over steel gratings?
FRP gratings are lighter, corrosion resistant, and non-conductive. In corrosive environments they can reduce maintenance and replacement frequency compared to painted steel.
Are FRP gratings corrosion resistant?
Yes. FRP gratings resist many acids, alkalis, salts, oils, and chemicals, making them suitable for chemical processing, petrochemical, wastewater treatment, desalination, and offshore/marine applications where metal gratings may corrode.
What load capacity do FRP gratings support?
Load capacity depends on panel thickness, span, grating type (molded or pultruded), and support configuration. Load tables specify safe working loads for each configuration.
Are FRP gratings slip resistant?
Yes. FRP gratings are available with concave tops, gritted surfaces, or meniscus designs that improve slip resistance in wet, oily, or chemical-contaminated conditions.
What industries use FRP fiberglass gratings?
FRP gratings are used in chemical/petrochemical, oil and gas/offshore, water/wastewater treatment, power generation, food and beverage processing, metals/mining, pulp and paper, marine/shipping, pharmaceuticals, and transportation infrastructure.
Can FRP gratings be customized?
Yes. FRP gratings can be customized in panel size, thickness, mesh pattern, color, resin system, surface grit, and load capacity to meet project requirements.
Do FRP gratings require maintenance?
FRP gratings require minimal maintenance in most applications. They do not rust or corrode like steel and typically do not require painting or sealing; periodic cleaning is usually sufficient.
