Product Description
Hollow fiberglass rods are tubes made from continuous glass fiber reinforcement combined with a thermoset resin matrix. They are lighter than solid rods of the same outer diameter while still providing useful stiffness and strength, making them suitable for fishing rod blanks, tent poles, electrical insulation, flag poles, and other applications where reduced weight is important. IncomePultrusion produces these rods on controlled pultrusion machines with matched steel pultrusion dies as part of our range of pultruded FRP profiles. For solid profiles, we also manufacture solid fiberglass rods in 1–51 mm diameters.
Our hollow fiberglass rods resist corrosion and do not conduct electricity, so they can be used in wet, chemical, or live-current environments where metal tubes would require protection or insulation.

Why Choose Our Hollow Fiberglass Rods?
Lightweight
A 10mm hollow rod can weigh as little as 0.17 kg per meter, which makes handling and shipping easier than metal tubes of similar outer diameter.
Weather and Corrosion Resistance
The thermoset resin matrix protects the glass fibers from moisture, salt, and many chemicals, so the rods can be used outdoors without the rust associated with steel.
Electrical Insulation
Fiberglass does not conduct electricity, making these rods suitable for electrical spacers, cable management, and safety barriers near live equipment.
Flexible Design
The hollow cross-section makes these rods more flexible than solid rods of the same outer diameter, helping them absorb shocks and vibrations.
Long Service Life
With proper installation and load limits, hollow fiberglass rods can provide many years of service without rotting like wood or corroding like unprotected metal.

How to Use and Maintain Your Hollow Fiberglass Rods
- Cutting: Use a fine-toothed saw. Wear gloves, safety glasses, and a mask to avoid skin irritation from fiberglass dust.
- Joining: Use fiberglass-compatible adhesives or mechanical connectors designed for tubular structures.
- Cleaning: Simple soap and water works best. Avoid harsh solvents unless compatibility is confirmed.
- Storage: Keep in a dry place and avoid long-term bending under load.
- Inspection: Check occasionally for cracks or damage, especially at connection points.
Frequently Asked Questions
How strong is a hollow fiberglass rod compared to wood or metal?
Strength depends on diameter, wall thickness, and resin system. A hollow fiberglass rod is generally stronger and lighter than a wooden dowel of the same outer diameter and can compete with aluminum tubes in many light-duty applications. Contact us for specific load data.
Can I bend these rods without breaking them?
Fiberglass rods can bend elastically within their design limit. Thinner rods offer more flexibility, while thicker rods are stiffer. Permanent bends should be made with controlled heat and tooling to avoid damage.
How do I connect two rods together?
The easiest way is with connector sleeves made for tubular structures. You can also use epoxy adhesives made for fiberglass. Both methods create strong joints when done properly.
Will these rods fade or weaken in the sun?
UV-stabilized resin systems help reduce fading and fiber degradation. As with all polymers, extremely long exposure to direct sunlight can cause some surface fading, but mechanical properties remain useful for typical outdoor lifespans.
What’s the difference between your hollow rods and cheaper options?
Our hollow fiberglass rods are produced with controlled wall thickness, cured resin, and quality checks for strength. Inconsistent wall thickness or uncured resin in lower-cost products can lead to unpredictable performance.
